Day 17

Driving home today, I caught sight of these beautiful clouds and the sunset in a clearing near my house. When I got to the house, I grabbed the camera and walked along the road to the clearing to take this shot.
Driving home, my dad saw me standing on he side of the road and gave me a lift back home. :)

Tomorrow I'm going to Boston to the MFA, and I'm sure there will be many beautiful things to take pictures of there!

Day 16

Here is a shot of my mandolin. If you look closely in the background, you can see my pillow with the Periodic Table of the Elements written on it...

I like the way this came out with the honey tones...

Day 15

More food! Here is a selection of my homemade (maybe not so beautiful, but definitely yummy!) cakepops ;)
I went to a class on making these at my library, and it's super fun and easy! Here is the book with directions and such: http://www.amazon.com/Cake-Pops-Tricks-Recipes-Irresistible/dp/0811876373/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1297992321&sr=1-1

Right now I'm listening to Phoenix... <3

Day 14

Valentine's Day!! My mom made this lovely chocolate ganache cake, and yes, it tasted as good as it looks!!!

Look at the beautiful chocolate, still warm and oh so yummy! Anything chocolate is complimented by strawberries.

Day 13

Today in church we talked about how we should always stand on the side of love, and accept people for who they are. It was a really cool sermon. :)
Anyway, on the walkway into church there is this pretty tree that was blooming! It's sort of hard to see in this picture, but the blooming parts looked like pussy willows!

I don't actually know if it was a pussy willow tree, or if pussy willows can even grow as trees; I will have to look it up...

Day 12

Here is a bit of color to brighten your day! This is a shot of our rainbowous thread rack. In the background you can see an old map of Maine; it covers half of that wall...

Day 11

It has just been so cold the past few days! Today I went to Five Fields to ski and I took this shot of some maple blossoms. You can see the orchard in the background.

The promise of new life is truly beautiful.  The buds of a maple above the orchard.

Days 9 & 10

Well, my camera hates me, so I couldn't upload a picture yesterday. I'm using a different camera today so I'm hoping that this will make up for it.  :)
My brother had a ski meet today and it was sunny but so cold! Maybe I can get through this day by being sentimental...

Friendship is a beautiful thing! This is a shot of my little bro and I at his ski race!

And the sunset on the way home! The sun let off this soft glow that looked really pretty.

Day 8

I woke up this morning and looked out the kitchen window to see the trees surrounding my house
covered in a layer of snow.

It was a very beautiful effect, and it made the trees look very elegant.

Day 7

Here is my picture for today. I took this while my brother was skiing at Five Fields Farm.

A view over orchards.

Day 6

OK, so I was too tired to post my picture yesterday...anyway, here it is:

I was sitting on the couch by the window, reading 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' (a very good book!) and petting my cat Toulouse, when I looked out the window and saw the sun shining throught the trees. The camera was on the 'soft skin' setting, which I didn't know at the time, and I found that it captured the light in this soft, eerie way...

Day 5

I took this one waiting at the bank. Go figure.

Snow crystals on pine needles. The whole copse was covered in ice that the sun had not yet touched. By the time we left, most of it had melted. Sometimes beauty is fleeting.

Day 4

Here I was, almost at the end of my 4th day, and I hadn't taken a picture of something beautiful yet!
Egads! I thought, staring at the fire my mom had just stoked. My thoughts got somewhat lost as I looked into the flames; they were warm and energetic and had a reassuring feel about them. And, tada! I realized that they were beautiful.

The warmth of the fire eats away at the winter chill...

Also, being in the presence of friends always helps when one is sick :)

Day 3

I stayed inside for most of the day because of my sore throat...but I was still able to find something beautiful!

My lion, Toulouse! He is so regal and beautiful. Here he is laying on the edge of the couch near the window.

Day 2

Hello!
It has been snowing all day! Though, I couldn't really go outside because I have this awful sore throat... :(
Anyway, here is my beautiful thing of the day:
Hoarfrost on the window. It had not yet melted away from the warmth of the nearby stove. The swirling, silvery pattern caught my eye.

Beauty in the Bleakness: 28 days of photography in February

So, I have always thought of February as this desolate and bleak time of year, albeit a short one.
In the mornings of February I trudge out to feed the chickens and give the rabbits water, all the while  snow builds up in my boots and harsh wind whips at the exposed places on my face. Maybe I'm making this up to be much worse than it is, but that is always how I remember February; cold, sad, bleak
But in reality, I realize that Spring is coming up quick, and soon all of this snow will just melt away like it was never here.

Anyway,  I was thinking that this year I would challenge myself to find beautiful things in February, and not focus on the hopeless part...AND I was looking for a creative outlet... so, TADA! I'll challenge myself to take a picture every day this month of something beautiful!  (not bleak!)
*applause*

So here it goes.

Day 1
This is a shot of our goose, Zenry. Curly feathers, he is so beautiful! It was snowing out and pretty nippy when I took this so I didn't even take off my sheepskin gloves!
